CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY
ANNUAL MEETING. HELD IN MASTERTON. The annual meeting of the Masterton Co-operative Society was held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms last evening. There was a fail’ attendance of members. Apologies for absence were received from Mr W. White (chairman), and Mr W. McGovern on account of illness. Mr E. Kjestrup was voted to the chair and read a written report from Mr White, in which he, as president of the Society, voiced an appeal to all shareholders to support their organisation in a very difficult time. The following officers were re-elect-ed as follows: —Messrs W. White (president), E. Kjestrup, W. Moore, W. McGovern, and C. E. Nicholls. Two new members, Messrs C. N. Cole and A. Esler were elected. The resignation of Mr J. Curry from the Management Committee, on account of ill-health, was received with regret. Mr Kjestrup eulogised the services of Mr Curry as a member of the Management Committee. As a result of the auditor resigning from his position, it was decided that Mr D. B. Curry, of Masterton, be asked to act in that capacity. A general discussion then took place and several helpful suggestions from members were made and noted.
The acting-chairman endorsed the remarks embodied in the written report of Mr White and asked those present to do their best to revive the interest of all shareholders in the Society. A hearty vote cf thanks to the new manager, Mr J. Hawkins; the new secretary, Miss E. Dorset, and the staff for the capable manner in which they carried out their duties was carried by acclamation.
