R.A.F. BUSY

HEAVY AND PERSISTENT DAYLIGHT RAIDS AT OPENING OF THIRD YEAR OF WAR. LOW-LEVEL ATTACKS MADE ON SHIPS. LONDON, September 2. At the opening of the third year of the war, the R.A.F. continued its blows against the enemy. From dawn to dusk today the sky over the Channel was alive with Spitfires, Hurricanes and bombers. Blenheim bombers made a low-level attack on an enemy supply ship, protected by six anti-aircraft ships and four E-boats. The supply ship was hit twice and was left under a pall of smoke. Two Messerschmitts were destroyed. One Blenheim is missing. Further formation of planes were seen crossing the Channel this evening, when attacks are believed to have been made between Calais and Boulogne. Good results were seen in an attack last night on Cologne but the attack was not on a large scale. One plane is missing. RAIDS ON BRITAIN FOUR ENEMY BOMBERS DESTROYED. LONDON, September 2. In enemy air raids on Britain last night, four German bombers were destroyed. One crashed in a country area and all members of the crew were killed. The German attacks were made on northeast districts, where there were some fatal casualties.
