Sixth Frost in Succession.

For the sixth morning in succession Masterton has experienced a frost, that registered today being 7.1 degrees. Medical Board Sittings. Sittings of the Medical Board will be held in Masterton on Friday and on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday of next week. Optimist Club Tea. On account of most members of the Optimist Club being in camp there was a small attendance at last night’s meeting, held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms K Masterton. Those present enjoyed the! song and sheriff’s sessions which were followed by a debate in which all members participated. Next week’s meeting will conclude this year’s session. Donations Acknowledged. The secretary of the Zone B patriotic fund acknowledges receipt of the following contributions to the patriotic funds:—E. C. White, £2 0s lid; Women's Folk Dancing, 14s 6d; Wairarapa Horse Sports, £10; Mrs Robinson, £1 18s; W. Rigg and staff, £5; Hastwells M.I. Association, £l6 10s; Taueru Patriotic Fund (for soldiers' parcels), £2O 12s sd; total, £56 15s lOd. Social at Kuripuni. There was a large attendance at the Epiphany Hall, Masterton, last night when a social evening organised by the Church of Epiphany Ladies’ Guild was held. The function proved an outstanding success, and was thoroughly enjoyed by those present. Following supper, a dance was held. Many performers contributed to a musical programme of a high order. The Rev. H. Taepa, at the conclusion of the programme, thanked all who had provided the entertainment, and those present for their support. Remuera Postal Ballot. A majority of 113 financial members of the National Party in the Remuera electorate replied “Yes” to the following question put them in a postal ballot: “In view of the circumstances that have arisen regarding the candidature for the Remuera electorate, do you consider that Mr W. P. Endean should be accepted as party candidate at the forthcoming election?” A total of 2068 ballot papers was sent and 1243 were returned. The result was 676 replies of “Yes" to the question and 563 of “No.” There were four informal votes. The electorate committee decided to meet the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Holland, and the Dominion president of the party, Mr A. Gordon, on Saturday evening, when the position will be considered and future action decided upon.
