COURSING

WAIRARAPA CLUB MEETING ROYAL ARTILLERY WINS COOPER CUP. TAMATETE SECURES MAIDEN STAKE. On Saturday afternoon, in fine weather and before a good attendance of spectators, the sixth and final meeting of the Wairarapa Coursing Club’s season was held at the Akura Plumpton. As a climax to a successful season’s coursing, Saturday’s events were outstanding. The club has had a strenuous season’s activities and on Saturday afternoon coursing at its best was staged. Throughout the various rounds, exciting contests were seen by fit and welltrained dogs. The hares once'’ again ran true to the form usually seen at Akura. The high scoring indicates clever and fast work by the hares, which repeatedly outshone the greyhounds in turning and by their speed and trickiness provided many spectacular courses. The club’s president, Mr J. Bradbury, with Tamatete, won the big' Maiden Stake. This dog ran prominently throughout the day until the final, when he only just headed off Mr Noonan’s Hats Off to win 2/1. The Cooper Cup was won by Miss A. Perry’s Royal Artillery which ran determinedly through each round. The highlight of this event was the easy win by The Admiral over Loch Lomond, and the convincing win of Julius Caesar over All Cash. In the evening a social and dance was held in the Odd Fellows’ Hall at which the visiting owners were entertained. Trophies won during the day were presented by the president, Mr Bradbury, who also presented a cheque to Mrs M. G. Buick as a slight appreciation of her generosity in allowing the club the use of her grounds.
