Wellington.— Wellington completed a Rugby double for the season by beating Taranaki at Athletic Park on Saturday before a crowd of about 9000 by 24 points to 16. In the previous match at Hawera, Wellington won 20-6. The weather was fine, but the playing surface was very heavy following overnight rain, and in places it was difficult for the players to maintain a foothold.
Christchurch. — A representative Rugby match between Canterbury andOtago at Lancaster Park on Saturday afternoon resulted in a scoreless draw. It was the sixtieth match the provinces have played and Otago tried hard to avenge the defeat in the match played at Dunedin earlier this season. Otago may be counted unlucky not to have won, as all the honours of the match were with them.
Greymouth.—Vastly superior forwards were mainly responsible for West Coast beating Nelson for the Scddon Shield 17-nil on Saturday. Auckland.—The final of the Auckland Rugby Union’s senior championship was won by Army in a spectacular match with Manukau, 24-9. Christchurch.—Senior Reserve: Albion 11, Athletic 3. University Match.—Victoria College beat Auckland University 17-0 in the annual fixture between these teams, which was played as the curtain-raiser at Athletic Park on Saturday. Play was confined mainly to the forwards, where Wellington held the advantage. For Victoria College, Cooney (2), Stuckey, Mummery and Reilly scored, Greig converting one try.
FOURTH GRADE GAME
HUTT DEFEAT MASTERTON. In a fast and interesting fourth grade match played at Memorial Park, Masterton, on Saturday afternoon, a team from Hutt Valley beat Masterton by 12 points to 8.
