PARCEL EVENING GATHERING AT CARRINGTON. (“Times-Age” Special.) A “parcel evening” was tendered to a well known resident of the Carrington district, Air Joseph Henry Dew. on the eve of his marriage, in the Carrington schoolroom. There was a large attendance and the time was spent in dancing to music supplied by Mesdames H. Hayes, B. E. Clarke, Messrs Joe Parker and C. E. Miller. Mr R. E. Clarke was M.C. Songs were, sung by Mr A. Kay and a duet by Miss Lola Hopkins and Mr A. Kay, the accompaniments being played by Mr Kay on his guitar. During the evening Mr Wm. Wilson asked Mr Dew to accept the many gift parcels brought to the gathering, which he did, those present singing “For he’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP CONTESTS. The semi-finals of the men’s championships played on heavy greens on Saturday resulted: —Seniors, H. Dudson beat C. K. Goodin, Harrington beat Fisher; juniors, Colson beat Nix, Dwane beat J. B. Lawrence. The following are the placings for the championship rounds in connection with the ladies’ club: —Seniors, Mrs Harrington, Miss Campbell, Mrs Callander, Mrs Murray, Mrs Moroney, Miss Berrell; juniors, Mrs Robinson, Mrs Court, Mrs Johansen, Miss Smart, Miss Peters, Miss Booth, Miss I. Corlett, Miss Armstrong. Dance for Soldiers. A dance will be held in the Bandroom tomorrow night in honour of Ptes. lan Mackie and P. Bond, who have recently returned from overseas and who will shortly go into camp again. Mrs Ashton’s orchestra will provide the music, and supper will be provided. Carterton Burglary. Following a burglary of Mr W. M. Worsfold’s jewellery premises in Carterton, last week, a youth, it- is understood, is to appear in the Petone Magistrate's Court charged with the offence. In the same connection two youths are to be charged with unlawful conversion of motor cars. Personal Items.

' At’ St.- Andrew's Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Mr C. L. Reynolds, school S told the class that they were losing one of the number, Master Warren White, who had been a regular attendant at the Sunday school for years, and oh behalf of the pupils presented him with a scout knife and sheath. Members of the Carterton Scout Committee and friends gathered in the Bandroom on Saturday evening for the purpose of farewelling Mr and Mrs C.' E. White, prior to their departure for their new home at Martinborough, where Mr White has taken over a bakery business. The time was spent in playing cards, while a very enjoyable musical programme was provided. The health of Mr and Mrs White was toasted. Mr H. T. Ray said that during a number of years Mr White had taken a very active part in the management cf the Boy Scouts and it was principally due to his work that the financial side of the scout movement was in such a flourishing condition. On behalf of the committee and Mr White's many friends he asked Mr and Mrs White to accept a hanging wall mirror. Mr White suitably returned thanks. At another function Mr White was the recipient of a fountain pen'from Mr W. S. Steven (proprietor of the Premier Bakery where Mr White had been employed for 16 years) and Mrs Steven, and a pocket wallet from the employees of the firm. Pte. lan Mackie, who has been on active service overseas has returned to Carterton on special leave. Pte. Mackie before enlisting was a teacher at the Carterton District High School. Besides being presented with an easy chair at Friday’s meeting of the Dalefield Dairy Company, Mr P. Bain was the recipient of a case of Loewe pipes. Miss Nancy Murray, of Berhampore. is the guest of Miss M. Dunn, Clifton Avenue, Carterton.
