BY BRITISH AIR FORCES IN MEDITERRANEAN DAMAGE TO ENEMY SHIPPING & WORKS. TRIPOLI AGAIN WELL BLASTED. LONDON, August 31. Operations on a considerable scale by the R.A.F. and the Fleet Air Arm in North Africa, the Mediterranean and Abyssinia are reported in a Middle East communique. Much damage was done to enemy shipping and works. Twenty-five tons of bombs were dropped on objectives in Tripoli harbour. The whole of the Spanish Quay was set on fire. Fotir ships, including one of 8,000 tons and two of 5,000 tons each were severely damaged. A reconnaissance yesterday showed that the biggest of these ships was still blazing. Another ship was left burning at Benghazi. The Fleet Air Arm attacked an objective in Sicily, and also a convoy. An 8,000 ton ship is believed to have been torpedoed. Enemy positions in Abyssinia were bombed and machine-gunned. One of our machines is missing from all these operations.
