ENDLESS STREAM
OF BRITISH FIGHTERS ACROSS CHANNEL HEAVY DAYLIGHT ATTACKS. NIGHT RAIDS ON CHERBOURG & OTHER TARGETS. LONDON, August 31. Squadron after squadron ot"Hurricanes and Spitfires have been crossing and recrossing the Channel today in an almost endless stream. Explosions were heard. No detailed report has been received so far. This evening another attack was made on objectives in Northern France. One enemy fighters was destroyed and one of our planes is missing. The docks at Cherbourg were attacked by the R.A.F. last night and Coastal Command aircraft bombed ground defences on the Dutch coast. Two of the latter machines- are missing. INDUSTRIES & DOCKS BOMBED ON FRIDAY NIGHT. (British Official Wireless.) < RUGBY, August 30. An Air Ministry communique states that in spite of bad weather a large force of aircraft of the Bomber Command attacked objectives in Germany last night. The main weight of the attack was directed against the industrial districts of Frankfurt and Mannheim. Docks and railways at Havre were also bombed. Five of our aircraft are missing. FEW ENEMY RAIDERS ONE PLACE IN BRITAIN BOMBED. VERY SMALL NUMBER OF CASUALTIES. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.45 a.m.) RUGBY, August 31. An Air Ministry and Ministry Home Security communique states: “Only a few enemy aircraft were over this country last night. Bombs fell at one place on the south-east coast and caused slight damage and a very small number of casualties.”
