WEDDING
DE BERRY—SPIERS. St. Matthew's Church, Masterton, was the scene of a pretty wedding on Saturday afternoon when Nancy Joan, only daughter of Mr and Mrs C. H. Spiers, Lincoln Road. Masterton, was ■married to Evan Leonard, younger son of Mr and Mrs L. F. de Berry, Christchurch. The ceremony was performed by the Venerable Archdeacon E. J. Rich, and Mr Miller Hope presided at the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her brother, Mr Howard Spiers, wore a becoming gown of ivory slipper satin cut on classical lines. Her beautiful veil, which was lent by the bridegroom's mother, was caught up with a top knot of orange blossom. A sheaf of arum lilies, freezias and cyclamen, which she carried added to the picturesque effect. Miss Pera Jackson, Auckland, was in attendance as bridesmaid. She was attired in pale green silk net, which featured a Peter Pan collar, puffed sleeves and a full skirt. Her bouquet was of gold tonings. Dr. Alvin W. de Berry, Palmerston North, carried out the duties of best man. During the signing of the register Miss B. Hirst sang Gournod’s “Ave Maria.” At the reception, held at the Prince of Wales Hotel, a number of guests were entertained. Mrs Spiers, assisted by Mrs de Berry, received the guests. She wore a petrol suit with tan accessories and hat to match. Mrs de Berry was attired in a cyclamen frock with navy hat and carried a posy to tone. The usual toasts were honoured and many congratulatory telegrams were received from all parts of New Zealand. When Mr and Mrs E. L. de Berry left on their honeymoon the bride wore a squadron blue costume with toning accessories and black coat. Their future home will be in Wellington.
