SAMOA LANDING
ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION AT APIA. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) APIA, August 30. The twenty-seventh anniversary of the landing of NeAV Zealand troops in Western Samoa was celebrated on Friday. The Acting-Administrator, Mr A. C. Turnbull, accompanied by Mrs Turnbull, arrived at the courthouse at 9 a.m., Avhere a large number of Europeans and Samoans assembled. The ceremony opened with an address by Mr Turnbull, followed by a speech by Auelua Lafaele, Faipule representing the Samoan people. The local defence force, under the command of Colonel Harley, and also the native police force and parties of school children from the various schools paraded for the occasion. Proceedings closed with the National Anthem, after which Mr Turnbull took the salute as the forces marched past a flag raised by a Samoan named Naea, a member of the hospital staff, who Avas one of the New Zealand occupying force in 1914.
