R.A.F. DAY & NIGHT OPERATIONS SWEEPS OVER NORTHERN FRANCE. COLOGNE AND OTHER TARGETS BOMBED. LONDON, August 27. Squadrons of Spitfires and Hurricanes made two daylight sweeps over Northern France today. Ten enemy fighters were destroyed. Eight British planes were lost. Objectives in Germany and Germanoccupied France were attacked .last night by the R.A.F.. the chief target being* Cologne, where tremendous explosions and big fires were caused The docks at Le Havre and Boulogne were also bombed. In addition, enemyoccupied aerodromes in Northern France were attacked. Three of our bombers are missing.
