NO READY SUPPLIES
FOUND BY GERMANS IN UKRAINE INABILITY TO HARVEST CROPS. . ' MACHINERY PUT OUT OF ACTION. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.10 a.m.) , RUGBY, August 27. That Germany is not finding the Ukraine a ready source of supplies is indicated by items appearing in Axis and neutral newspapers. The Berlin correspondent of a Swedish newspaper reports that the Germans are unable to harvest crops left behind in West Ukraine owing to lack of machinery and labourers. The Stefani Agency reports that the Russians put so much machinery out of action that recourse is being had to scythes and disused windmills. The Germans have been forced to release men from the army for agricultural work in the Ukraine. FRENCH CONTINGENT WEARING GERMAN HELMETS. LONDON.' August 27. Vichy announces that the first contingent to “fight Bolshevism” will leave on August 30. They are reported to be wearing German helmets with the tricolour.
