STATE THEATRE

“LADDIE.” From the glowing pages of Gene Stratton-Porter’s memorable bestseller, “Laddie,” RKO-Radio has wrought one cf the most beautiful romantic dramas of the season. Adhering closely to the simple, heart-warm-ing story of a true son of the soil that has endeared it to millions of readers the world over, the charming film will be shown at the State Theatre tonight. Tim Holt is ideally cast in the title role, a sturdy Indiana farmer who tosses defiance at the social caste system by falling in love with the aristocratic young daughter of a haughty English family living on the adjoining property. Virginia Gilmore superbly plays this part of Pamela, the Princess, while eight-year-old Joan Carroll deftly portrays Little Sister, Laddie’s loyal supporter in the daring romantic adventure. Sharing acting honours with the youthful trio the Spring Byington and Robert Barrat, Miles Mander and Esther Dale.

Also screening is Harold B. Frankin’s screen comedy, “The Villain Still Pursued Her.” Only a confirmed grouch will be able to resist the superlative hilarity of this screen version of one of the most successful melodramas in the history of the American stage. Hugh Herbert, Anita Louise, Alan Mowbray, Buster Keaton, Joyce Compton, Richard Cromwell, Billy Gilbert, Margaret Hamilton, Diane Fishei and Charles Judels comprise the featured cast. '
