Mrs Roosevelt told the Press that the Duke of Kent, like his brother, King George VI, was very shy and thoughtful and seemed pleased to have a quiet time at Hyde Park. The Duke said he had not seen an orange or a banana for months until his arrival in Canada. A highlight of the Duke’s stay at Hyde Park was a swim and tea with his goddaughter, Zoe Farquharson, aged eleven, now temporarily living at Fairfield, Connecticut,- whose mother was killed by a bomb last winter. The Duke expressed a wish to see the child, whereupon President and Mrs Roosevelt immediately invited her.
