MINIATURE RIFLES SCORES IN COMPETITION. ("Times-Age” Special.) The following were the highest scores recorded in a competition held by the Featherston Miniature Rifle Club: A. Cook 98,' B. Williams 97, K. McKenzie 96, I. Feast, R. Bimler, E. O’Neale 95, C. Foster, A. Viles 93, L. G. Benton 92, A. McNamara, G. Huttenberg 91.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT KAHUTARA. A meeting of the Women’s Institute was held in the Kahutara Hall, Mrs Elve presiding over a fair attendance of members. A "bring and buy” stall was held, a good sum being obtained for the fund for parcels and wool. A pair of ducks given by Mrs Elbe for competition realised’£2 10s for the parcel fund. Four parcels were packed during the afternoon and these are to bo forwarded to local soldiers overseas. The thought for the day was given by Mrs Harland. It was decided that the competition for next month will be a suitable garment for a refugee child. The competition winners were: — Shortbread suitable for a soldier’s parcel, Mrs Elbe 1, Mrs Hood, Senr., 2. Best bloom, Mrs McKenna 1, Mrs Duffy 2. The hostesses were Mesdames Sinclair, Duffy and Harland.

Personal Items. Mr and Mrs L. W. Smith, of Wanganui, are the guests of Mr and Mrs J. Buck, Underhill Road. Mrs A. S. Kilsby left today to spend a short holiday in Wellington. Social Gathering. Those who ventured out on Thursday night spent a very enjoyable time at the social gathering held in the Parish Hall. A duet was sung by Misses Olivyn Clapshaw and Dorothy Raper and a solo by Olbyin Clapshaw. These items were greatly enjoyed. Games and competitions were also on the programme. A Generous Offer. Members of the Home Guard have generously offered to dig the ground given to the junior members of the Women’s War Service Auxiliary who intend to plant it in vegetables and flowers, and who would welcome gifts of seeds or plants. Mortality Among Lambs. There has been very heavy mortality among lambs in the South Wairarapa during the recent rough weather. Raffle Drawn. The raffe. held by the Kaiwaiwai Hall Committee was drawn on Thursday in the presence of dancers and card players in the South Featherston Hall. The winning ticket was No. 35. ,held by L. E. Feast, Western Lake. 1 Free Picture Entertainment. Home Guardsmen and E.P.S. workers are invited to attend a free screening of pictures in the Town Hall on Thursday evening. Boy Scouts. The annual meeting of the Featherston Boy Scouts' Association will be held on Thursday at 7.30 p.m. in the Odd Fellows’ Hall.
