EKETAHUNA

BOROUGH COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Eketahuna Borough Council was held last night, there being present the Mayor, Mr W. Olsen, Councillors P. S. Page, K. D. Marenzi, E. M. Simmers, R. Gallagher, M. W. Priest and D. D. Ryan. The treasurer, Mr B. Dinnan, reported:—District Fund Account, dr. £l5 4s; Domain Account, dr. £1 14s 6d; rate arrears, £517 15s 2d; cemetery arrears, £lO library arrears, 15s. A number of absentee owners signified their willingness to transfer their properties to the council in lieu of rates owing on the same. The Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society wrote asking the council to declare a half holiday on the occasion of People’s Day of the show. The letter was received.

The Fire Brigade wrote asking for the supply of hatchets, etc. It was agreed to grant the sum of £5 for this purpose. The Eketahuna District. High School Committee wrote asking for the provision of a footpath on the south side of Alfredton Road, from the Railway Road to the entrance of the Secondary School. The Mayor and foreman were asked to inspect the work.
