SPIRIT OF BRITAIN

FURTHER TRIBUTE PAID BY MR FRASER • e PEOPLE PREPARED FOR LONG WAR. VISIT TO UNITED STATES. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copy) ight > ’ (Received This Day, 12.35 p.m.) LONDON, August 20. “The war has every indication of lasting for a considerable period and from what I have seen the people of Britain'are prepared for a long fight and are ready to continue keeping up their present strenuous efforts,” said Mr P. Fraser (New Zealand Premier) in an interview.

“I have had unique opportunities of studying the conditions throughout Britain, from the War Cabinet and the Imperial Defence Committee to places where crops are grown, armaments made and ships built, launched and worked,” Mr Fraser added. “As a result of close personal observations. I feel strongly that the country is making a marvellous effort. I was most impressed by the spirit of the bombed cities, where already, in this dark hour, the people are studying plans for better cities and better housing in future. Except for the loss of life and suffering, r found no regrets for much of the material damage the Huns have done.”

Mr Fraser said New Zealand’s air defences had been greatly strengthened and the tension in the Far East had not caused any diminution of the numbers being sent io Canada', under the Empire air training scheme. New Zealand was also training all the air crews she needed. Mr Fraser expects to spend a fortnight in the United States, where he will have talks with President Roosevelt.
