GREYTOWN

SCHOOL COMMITTEE

MEETING LAST EVENING

(“Times-Age” Special.)

The monthly meeting of the Greytown District High School Committee was held last evening. There were present: Messrs H. G. Carter (chairman), F. Dennes, E. Galyer, J. Morison, R. O’Neale, W. Wiggins, Mrs Knell and the headmaster, Mr S. Shedden. The headmaster reported as follows: —Roll numbers, 295 primary, 40 secondary. Sickness was still having a bad effect on the attendance which, however, was improving.. Mr Hesse had visited the school and promised every assistance in connection with carrying out more agricultural work. The Town Lands Trust had made available land to carry out such work. The visiting committee submitted a report on the conditions at the school and these are to be forwarded to the Wellington Education Board. Schoo! Children at Play. The Martinborough District High School pupils paid a visit to Greytown yesterday afternoon. In the football game the teams were evenly matched, the result being a draw, 12 points each. Mr T. Sugrue was referee. In the basketball game Greytown won by a narrow margin.

Personal Items.

Mr S. Shedden, commander of A Company of the Home Guard, and Mr M. Whimp, will attend the next instruction camp for Home Guard officers at Palmerston North.

Mr and Mrs L. Duff and family, of Taihape, are the guests of Mrs Duff Senr., Main Street.
