PIPING AND DANCING

MEETING OF ASSOCIATION.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day

“Every branch of social endeavour and activities in the furtherance of piping and dancing in New Zealand has felt the pressure of circumstances necessitated by the war,” said the secretary-treasurer, Mr M. G. Nasmith, in presenting the report of the Piping and Dancing Association at the annual meeting in Wellington. Mr C. Stewart, Senr., presided. Several sports organisations had cancelled their usual fixtures, stated the report, and there was a drop in the registration of competitors, this being largely due to members proceeding overseas on active service. The most important feature of the year for the Wellington centre was the removal of the headquarters of the association from Dunedin to Wellington. The new executive comprised several officers of the Wellington centre, and there was every reason to hope that the association would continue to prosper under the new management. It was decided to allot two provincial championships to the Scotch Thistle Society, Palmerston North. The chairman expressed regret that two members had been reported missing on active service. One, Captain T. G. Bedding, was a keen piper and instrumental in forming the Scots College Pipe Band, of which he was pipe major. The other, Pilot Officer C. Stewart, had a Dominion-wide reputation for both piping and dancing.

It was decided to hold the first meetmg of the new executive in Masterton. Officers elected were: —President, Mr A. McCowan (Eketahuna); vicepresidents, Messrs A. Barclaj r (Wellington). R, J.
