ENEMY SHIPPING

SMASHED BY -THE FLEET AIR ARM LOW-LEVEL ATTACKS MADE ON SICILIAN PORTS. HURRICANES ALSO BUSY. LONDON, August 18. Daring low-level attacks were made by the Fleet Air Arm on objectives in Sicily, in which Italian losses in shipping must have been jevere. Flames 300 feet high let up a whole harbour and bombs were seen to fall squarely on the mole and railway sidings. Barracks were also smashed and the fire could be seen 70 miles away. These attacks were followed up by Hurricanes, which dropped bombs on seaplanes, destroying one and crippling others. Italy’s remaining pockets of resistance in Abyssinia -were also attacked. Enemy bombers have been in evidence over Tobruk and on land our patrols are persistently harassing the enemy and inflicting heavy casualties.
