Four-year , ewes made 26s Id, and five-year to 19s ■ 6d, the latter price being well down on ; last week. Run cattle attracted considerable • bidding, well-grown lines selling at firm rates. Good three-year A.A. steers brought £7 Ils, smaller two-year sorts going at £6 7s to £6 16s. Good yearling A.A. steers made from £5 15s to £5 17s, and heifers from £3 14s to £4 17s. Shorthorn heifers sold at £4 9s. A heavy penning of dairy stock held firm at satisfactory prices, the best heifers changing hands at up to £l3 10s. Cows were mainly low grade, and only made to £6 15s. Beef was easier, the prime heavy weight sorts of the previous week being missing. Prime cows realised to £9 2s 6d, and heifers to £8 17s 6d. Light steers brought £lO 17s 6d. CARTERTON SALE COWS AND HEIFERS IN DEMAND. PIGS ON PAR WITH LATE RATES. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report as follows: A good yarding of cattle and pigs came forward at our Carterton sale yesterday. Cows and heifers showing quality and condition sold well up to late rates, but late calvers and cows lacking condition were hard to quit. Pigs sold on a par with late rates. The following are some of the realisations: Sheep: Fat hoggets, 24s to 26s 6d. Cattle: Jersey cows on drop, £8 to £l2; springing cows, £5 to £8 10s; Jersey heifers on drop, £9 to £ll 15s; springing heifers, £6 18s to £8 15s; yearling Jersey heifers, £4 2s 6d to £4 las; .yearling Ayrshire heifers, to £5; fat heifers. £5 to £6; fat cows, £4 15s to £5 Gs; forward cows. £3 10s to £4 10s: store cows, £2 Gs to £3.
