GLADSTONE
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE BIRTHDAY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Gladstone Women’s Institute held its monthly meeting in the Gladstone Hall on Thursday, it being the birthday meeting of the Institute. Mrs Joblin presided over a small attendance of members. Apologies for absence were received from five members. Birthday greetings were received from Mrs Sebrello, a former member of the Institute. A letter has been received from a soldier, acknowledging a parcel sent by the Institute. It was decided to give a piece of tapestry to Mr Kane, a recently return- ( ed disabled soldier, who is a son of a member. Miss Cox Johnston gave an interest- : ingand instructive lecture on the kitchen garden, which was greatly enjoyed by all. Miss Cox Johnston will again be lecturing at our next meeting on the preservation of fruit and vegetables. Competitions results were:—Hot water bottle cover, Miss Babb; bloom, Mrs Britton.
Mrs Joblin and helpers were hostesses for the afternoon.
