PIRINOA

DAIRY COMPANY ANNUAL MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of shareholders of the Pirinoa Co-operative Dairy Company was held at the company’s factory. Mr D. S. Warren (chairman of directors) presided. The report and balance sheet were approved. The chairman reviewed the activities of the company during the past season which was considered a very satisfactory one. • Two retiring directors, Messrs D. L. Bell and J. McDonald, were re-elected. Mr G. Gaudin was elected to the directorate in place of Mr R. McDougall deceased. A vote of thanks to the staff was passed. The new directorate is comprised of Messrs D. S. Warren, G. Gaudin, G. J. Gillies, McDonald, F. Busch, D. L. Bell and W. T. Hume. Mr Warren was reelected chairman. Personal Items. Private James Duggan and Mrs Duggan were the guests of Mr and Mrs J. Duggan Senr., for a few days. Mr Don O'Brien. Tora, son of Mr and Mrs J. O’Brien, has been on a visit to the district. Mr W. Ross is - now assistant light keeper at the Cape Palliser lighthouse.

Mr and Mrs Andy Linton, who have been residents of the Tuhitarata district for a number of years, have left to reside in Greytown. Mr Linton has purchased the property formerly owned by Mr J. A. McDougall. Mr Linton still retains his property here. Mrs Sutherland, Wellington, is the guest of Mrs J. H. Tilson, Te Kopi. Mrs Jepson is staying with her daughter, Mrs G. Gaudin, Whangaimoana.

Private Gordon Hall, was on Wednesday night presented with a wristlet watch by MrsF. Lovegrove, on behalf of the residents of the district.

The popularity of Miss Joan Lovegrove, who is leaving the district to take up the appointment of postmistress at Khandallah, was shown on Wednesday night when the residents, both Maori and pakeha, and the school children of the local school presented her with a travelling bag, ladies’ handbag and a cheque. The presentation -was made by Mr J. Carter, who referred to the excellent manner in which Miss Lovegrove had carried out her official duties. Mr F. Lovegrove replied on behalf of his daughter. Miss N. McDougall presented Miss Lovegrove with a beautiful bouquet. Home Guard Dance. The Horne Guard dance held in the Memorial Hall on Wednesday night was a decided success, visitors being present from all parts of the Lower Valley. Competitions were won by Mrs F. Lovegrove (dinner), Messrs, D. J. McIntosh (turkey). F. J. Staples and W. T. Hume (chocolates). The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Whittle and Mr F. Lovegrove. Splendid music was supplied by Udy’s Orchestra while H. Carter played extras. The M.C. was Mr S. McIntosh.
