MR M. M. SIMPSON’S SURVEY
Speaking at the Wairarapa Post and Telegraph- Employees’ and Officers’ Guild’s annual reunion in Masterton last night the Postmaster, Mr M. M. Simpson, gave an interesting survey of the part officers were playing in the present war. “There are 1,862 officers serving with the Armed Forces overseas,” said Mr Simpson. “One thousand, five hundred and. twenty-two were called up for Territorial service, and 209 are still in camp. The total overseas, and trained as Territorials, was 3,384. The casualties ./mong officers were 12 killed, 57 missing, 16 wounded and 23 prisoners of war.
“Three officers gained meritorious service decorations, and nine others were mentioned in despatches for distinguished services,” he said.
