WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEETING AT PARKVALE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Park- : vale Women's Institute was presided I over by Mrs D. N. Adams. There was / a good attendance of members and a most enjoyable time was spent. Mrs Munn gave a very interesting demonstration of the making of wool flowers, felt slippers and patchwork. The chief article was a beautiful handmade quilt called the Dresden Plate. Mrs Munn was accorded a hearty vote of thanks and presented with a shoulder spray. Mrs J. Court was the winner of an interesting competition, and Mrs A. Knutson was successful in the lucky number competition. Mesdames A. Knutson and R. J. Grimmer judged the monthly competitions and gave their awards as follows: Seniors, Yankee Doodle sponge, Mrs M. McKinnon 1, Mrs C. Jensen 2, Mrs D. N. Adams 3; flowers, Mrs M. McKinnon 1, Mrs L. Rayner 2, Mrs H. Rayner- 3. Juniors: Sponge, Miss S. Rayner 1; flowers, Miss H. McKinnon 1, Miss S. Rayner 2. The hostesses were Mesdames George, S. Rayner and W. King. WAR SERVICE WOMEN'S AUXILIARY. A meeting of the Canteen Corps of the Women's W’ar Service Auxiliary was held in the Wairarapa P. and A. Society’s rooms yesterday. Mrs H. E. Ordish outlined the practical and theo- ■ retical side of the proposed scheme with , regard to canteen work. Eariy in September, she said, it was hoped to commence a series of lectures. It was intimated that the training or the Transport Corps would commence as soon as possible. Interest and enthusiasm is being well maintained in the Cycling Corps, while the drill and first aid classes are regularly attended. Presentation to Private Tankersley. Members of the Carterton branch of the W.F.C.A. last evening gathered to make a presentation to one of the staff, Private A. R. Tankersley. Mr D. Taylor wished Private Tankersley good luck, good health and a safe return to Carterton. Occasion was also taken to toast his health. Private Tankersley suitably returned thanks. He also appreciated the good wishes tendered to Mrs Tankersley and himself upon his recent marriage. Soldiers To Be Entertained. There should be a large gathering of -Settlers of Parkvale and the surrounding districts at the Parkvale hall to-« night when Privates M. Rose and N. Walsh will be guests of honour at a dance. During the evening presentations will be made to both soldiers. The ladies of the district have made a special effort in regard to the suppei. Soldiers to be Entertained. A dance is to be tendered to several soldiers in the Kings Theatre on Monday night. The Mayor will officially welcome them and will make a presentation from the residents of the borough to each soldier. Mrs Ashton's orchestra will provide the dance music. Heavy Fall of Snow. There was a heavy fall of snow on the Tararu'a Ranges this morning.
