DAIRY DISEASES
TREATMENT AND REMEDIES.
ADDRESS TO FARMERS.
Dairy farmers were present in large numbers at the Masterton A. and P. Association's Rooms last evening, when Mr H. R. Fallwell gave an address on the treatment of dairy cattle diseases. Mr R. H. Brewerton, who presided, said farmers throughout the district appreciated Mr Fallwell’s visit, and had expressed their gratitude to the W.F.C.A. Ltd. for bringing such a man to the district.
Mr Fallwell showed slides relating to bacteriology, which were most interesting and stressed the importance of hygiene in the cowshed and how necessary it was to stop the cause of infection, particularly in relation to mammitis. Although unseen and unknown, he said, it was quite common, where slight infection occurred in a herd, for a farmer himself to carry infection on his hands. Mr Fallwell proceeded to give a general discourse on the common ailments of dairy stock, such as scouring in young calves, worms in yearlings, milk fever, grass staggers, abortion and sterility. He spoke also on common remedies for stock diseases and answered many questions. At the Grey town address the chairman, Mr W. G. K. Wiggins, expressed the appreciation of farmers of the action of Messrs Mannings, Ltd., in sending a man of the ability of Mr Fallwell to the district and also thanked the W.F.C.A., Ltd., for sponsoring the visit.
Mr Fallwell will address a further meeting at the Dyerville Hall, Martinborough, on Monday.
