Weather cold, with a few further showers. Some frosts tonight. FURTHER OUTLOOK: Improving. LOCAL REPORTS. Miss A. M. Brown reports as follows for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. today:— Barograph, 29.9; shade temperature, maximum 45,3, minimum 36,8, terrestrial 34,9; sunshine, 12 minutes; rain, 56 points. Mr H. M. Boddington reports that 55 points of rain fell at Solway during the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. today. I PHASES OF THE MOON. Last quarter, August 15, 1.40 p.m.; new moon, August 23, 6.34 a.m.; first quarter, August 30, -2.4 a.m. SUN. The sun rose today 7.11 a.m., sets 5.40 p.m.
