PASSED BY THE HOUSE WITH TWO LOCAL MEASURES. ESTIMATES BEING DISCUSSED TODAY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The House of Representatives was in working mood yesterday, and the Finance Bill and two local Bills were passed aftei’ a minimum of discussion. Mr Nash replied to the second reading debate on the Finance Bill at 7.30 p.m. with an hour’s speech. The Committee stage was taken immediatley afterward. After 70 minutes on the short title during which members of the Opposition sought enlightenment on some points, the 43 clauses were taken seriatim and disposed of in 40 minutes, with three slight amendments to machinery clauses introduced by Mr Nash. The clause validating certain payments by the Wellington Education Board was mentioned by the Leader cf the Opposition, Mr Holland, who asked whether, in view of a petition about some aspects of the board’s finances, it 7 was intended that the clause be deferr- 1 ed. Mr Nash replied that he could see no reason for such a course, and. it went through without further comment. The Wanganui Harbour District and Empowering Amendment Bill, which was critically received by the Opposition on Wednesday and was talked out, unexpectedly reappeared. At Mr Nash’s suggestion it-was referred back to the Local Bills Committee for further consideration, this course satisfying the Opposition. The House adjourned at 10.20 p.m. till 10.30 this morning. Today the Estimates are being discussed.
