Gunner H. Hessell, of Papakura camp, is visiting his parents, Mr and Mrs G. L. Hessell, Masterton. Lieut.-Colonel (temporary colonel) Ivan S. Wilson has been appointed honorary physciian, and Surgeon-Comman-der Harold K. Corkill, honorary surgeon, to the Governor-General, according to an announcement in ■ last night’s Gazette. Visiting Masterton on leave are Private D. B. Pointon (Artillery) and Cpl. J. F. Pointon (R.N.Z.A.F.) Cpl. Pointon, who has been serving with the R.N.Z.A.F. for the past two years, is to be posted to the Fleet Air Arm for flying duties. The death occurred in Auckland recently of Mr Peter Laurenson, aged 85 years. Born in Unst, Shetland, in 1858, he went to Brisbane, Queensland, in 1875, and to Wellington in 1878. He took up his residence at Ngahauranga in the early eighties. He opened a general store there, retiring in 1921. His wife predeceased him in 1909. He leaves a family of three daughters —Mrs T. Bramwell (Wanganui), Mrs A. Carroll (Auckland), and Mrs F. Carroll (Lower Hutt), and three sons, Andrew (Feilding), Peter and Leslie (Wellington), and one sister, Mrs P. Jamieson (Dalefield).
