MANURE RATIONING

REMINDER TO FARMERS FINAL DAY FOR APPLICATIONS TOMORROW. COMMITTEE’S POSITION DEFINED “It cannot be too strongly emphasised that absolutely no consideration can be given to applications for fertiliser if these are not lodged with me in writing before 5 p.m. tomorrow (Friday, August 15),’’ stated Mr N. Lamont, chairman of the Masterton Fertiliser Committee today. “Immediately after this date all the phosphatic fertiliser available, except the reserve for cropping, will be divided up amongst farmers to meet their topdressing requirements for the coming twelve months. As has already been announced, the quantity available is only sufficient to provide 40 per cent of normal annual requirements. Most have now been advised by their vendors of the actual net quantity that is available but others apparently have not' yet realised that they can obtain only 40 per cent of their applications —that is. 20 per cent of the total amount used over the two year period on which rationing is based.

“Farmers should make quite sure before Fridaj' that their interests are protected because after that date it will be quite impossible for any adjustments to be made. In the case of newcomers to the district or applicants for increase, they can be assured that they are being catered for, if they have received a written acknowledgment of their application from the Fertiliser Committee.

“Any farmer who has not had written acknowledgment of an application from the committee or who has not been advised of his position by his firm or factory should take immediate steps to ascertain whether his allowance has been provided for. After tomorrow all available supplies of phosphatic fertiliser will be finally allocated and the position will simply be that none will be obtainable for any who have not protected themselves.”
