FOR ASSAULT ON WARDERS REMITTED BY GOVERNMENT. ' LEGISLATION IN COURSE OF PREPARATION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Minister of Justice (Mr Mason) announced that the flogging sentence on the four Auckland prisoners who assaulted warders in the course of a successful attempt to escape from the Auckland Gaol had been remitted. MiMason said the Governor-General had signed a remission order on the advice of the Ministry. The Minister added that legislation was now in course of preparation for the abolition of flogging in the Dominion.
