WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

OPAKI MEETING. WINNERS OF COMPETITIONS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Opaki Women's Institute was held at . the home of Mrs Beetham, who presided. The president explained matters relating to a proposed Red Cross Society shop day towards the end of September. Members agreed to assist. The roll call, “What annoys me most in the house,” was well responded to. Members brought additional Peggy squares for the completion of a quilt. The competitions were judged by visitors, Miss Spelman and Miss L. lorns, who made the following awards: Needlework, Mrs Rayner 1, Mrs Buick 2, Mrs Marchbank 3. Cooking: Mrs Buick 1, Miss lorns 2, Mrs Miller 3. Best bloom: Mrs Rayner 1, Mrs Beetham 2, Mrs Malmo 3. The Institute will meet at the home of Mrs Wingate in September. The roll call will be “a holiday episode” and the competitions best bloom, child’s petticoat and ginger-nuts.
