MARTINBOROUGH

SUDDEN DEATH MR WILLIAM CHARLES DALTON. (“Times-Age” Special.) Collapsing yesterday morning while delivering milk in Martinborough. William Charles Dalton, a single man 56 years of age, died almost immediately. The late -Mr Dalton, who was employed by Mr Corfield, was on his morning round as usual but when at the back door of one of his customers he suffered a seizure and died within a minute or two. As the billy had not been placed outside the door he knocked and on opening the door the occupant of the house was just in time to see Mr Dalton collapse and fall to the ground. Medical aid was summoned, lout life was found to be extinct. The late Mr Dalton was a wellknown resident of the town and had lived in the district practically all his life. For many years he had been employed by Mr Corfield. He was a returned soldier from the last war. An inquest will be held at the Martinborough Courthouse tonight before Mr T. E. Lang, District Coroner. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE COMPETITION WINNERS. The monthly meeting of the local Women's Institute was held on Friday, Mrs Boyd presiding over a good attendance. A vote of sympathy was passed with Mrs Weir in connection with her recent bereavement. Mr M. N. Hardie was appointed treasurer. The competitions were won as follows: Best flower, Mrs M. N. Hardie 1, Mrs McNally 2. Marmalade, Mrs Tyler 1, Mrs Hardie 2. The travelling shilling was won by Mrs Watson. Miss H. Dymes gave a most interesting talk on English wild flowers, and was presented with a shoulder spray. LADIES’ GOLF ROTOTAWAI v MARTINBOROUGH. The following are the results of a match played on Saturday between the Rototawai and Martinborough clubs: Mrs Martin and Miss Harvey beat Mrs Collins and Miss Collins; Miss Baker and Mrs Charles lost to Mrs Pope and Miss Bargh; Mrs. Marflitt and Mrs Baker beat Miss Collins and Mrs Elbe.
