GUN DOGS
WAIRARAPA CLUB 7 TRIALS AT FEATHERSTON. SUCCESSFUL WEEKEND OUTING. (“Times-Age” Special.) Although the entries for the Wairararapa Gun Dog Club’s trials at the Lake Reserve, Featherston, yesterday, were not large, they were sufficient to create very keen and interesting sport. The weather remained calm for most of the day and no rain fell to mar the running of a varied programme. Chief credit for the successful conduct of the trials is due to the capable club captain, Mr A. Mclvor, of Featherston, who selected the grounds for the different events in a manner that allowed the judges to quickly and surely select the best performers. The Open Land event course was perhaps on the easy side, there being no difficult cover, but it had this advantage that .every command and movement of the handler and dog respectively were well within the hearing and vision of the judge and the spectators. The Open Water trial was a great test. To succeed in this event the dogs Were' called on for a sound idea of marking the spot where the game fell. They were also required to be swimmers of ho mean ability, full of courage, and under good command. The spectators were delighted with the loud-speaker announcements, and the thanks of the Wairarapa Club are due to Mr H. Byrn, Junr., for supplying and operating most efficiently this modern and useful apparatus. Competitors were always in their order of running and everyone was aware of what was in progress. Credit was also due to several lady members who provided morning and afternoon tea and luncheon, and at the end of the day Mr W. Harding (president) thanked them sincerely on behalf of the club for their good work. The judges, Messrs W. Harding and J. Bouzaid, put through the events in record time and their decisions were very well received. Details of the results are as follow: — Open Events. Open Land (seven entries): Mr D. P.
