STOCK MARKET
SALE AT FEILDING A STRONG TONE. MUTTON PRICES INCREASE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) FEILDING. August 8. Despite unfavourable weather there was a strong tone in the market at Feilding today, the moderate entry of good quality stock selling freely. Mutton prices appreciated about 2s a head, some particularly well finished ewes and wethers attracting strong demand from butchers. Lamb values were steady at late rates. Inquiry for store sheep was firm, and the rather small entry was quickly cleared. Ewe hoggets were in chief supply, and first-quality lines of these made from 30s to 31s 6d. Medium grade twotooth ewes sold at 32s 6d, and good four and five-year ewes at 20s 7d. A very good line of five-year ewes made 22s 3d. ’Wether hoggets were not in supply in any numbers. Store cattle values were unchanged, with a steady inquiry for the few pens of forward station lines available. Three year A.A. steers in good order made £8 16s, and smaller sorts of mixed breed changed hands at £7 18s to £8 7s. Two-year steers brought £6 6s. The market was quieter for Jersey heifers, best sorts ranging from £5 10s to £5 17s 6d. A satisfactory sale took place for a fairly heavy supply of dairy cattle, heifers reaching profit making to £l2 5s and springing cows to £9 10s. Heifers in milk also sold well at up to £l2 ss. Female beef was a little easier because of a drop in quality, particularly in heifer lines. Cows of medium finish made to £8 17s 6d and heifers to £8 2s 6d. Pigs sold well at unchanged prices.
