METHODIST CHURCH

LADIES' GUILD. MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Methodist Ladies’ Guild was held at the residence of Mrs W. R. Nicol, Chapel Street, when Mrs G. G. Hancox presided over a large attendance of members. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Prior, Daniell. Daysh, Gillian. Shoosmith, Coradine, Cocker and Hendry. Mrs Miller Hope was the chief speaker at the meeting and members thoroughly enjoyed her entertaining and instructive talk on “The Charm of Melody.” A programme of songs, part songs and pianoforte solos was contributed. by Mrs Miller Hope, Misses Monica Welch, Molly West, Berris Perrin, Heather Douglas and Brenda Jaine. Mrs Hancox extended the thanks of members to Mrs Miller Hope and her party for giving so generously of their time and talent. Mrs Fisher,' of Palmerston North, gave two enjoyable elocutionary items. The remaining meetings this year will be held in the infant Sunday school room. Next month there is to be a recipe competition and members are asked to bring a copy and also a sample of their favourite recipe. Mrs H. Speight provided the happy thought for the month: “We should do al! we can to put out music into the ether and by so doing help to neutralise all the hate in the world.” Mrs Madsen and Miss Jackson were the afternoon tea hostesses. At the conclusion of the meeting Mrs H. Speight moved a vote of thanks to those who had contributed to the programme, to Mrs Nicol and to the hostesses, this being carried.
