APPEAL TO MOTORISTS

NOT TO USE CHAPEL STREET. WHILE PIPE-LINING WORK IS IN PROGRESS. The Borough Engineer, Mr C. R. Mabson, stated today that the work of the contractors engaged in cementlining the water mains in Chapel Street would be made much easier if motorists made a detour and avoided using Chapel Street. Mr Mabson emphasised that this action would be in the interests of motorists themselves, as drivers, in an attempt to see what the men were doing at the roadside, took their eyes off the road. Accidents would probably be avoided if the course suggested were taken. At present there is considerable congestion at busy times, particularly on a Wednesday or Friday.
