WOMEN’S DIVISION

MEETING OF WAIRARAPA COUNCIL PRESENTATION TO MRS GROVES. APPRECIATION OF SERVICES. There was an excellent attendance of members of the Wairarapa Provincial Council of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union at a meeting held in Masterton over which the president. Mrs K. Groves, presided. Others present were: Mesdames Andrew, Hay (Tinui); James (Rangitumau), Grant, Ross (Pahautea); Clark (Featherston); Lowes. Stonc-Wigg, Handcock (Ekotahuna); Burch (Martinborough); Beu. Wiggins (Greytown); Dagg, Nikolaison. Cheetham (Maurice-ville-Ihuraua); Jackson (Masterton); Gibson, Day (Pahiatua); Wilton (Mangaone); Couper, Allen. MacKenzie (Carterton); Harman Sent’., Harman Junr. (Tiraumea); Misses Harvey (Rangitumau': Corlett (Pahautea); Eager (Greytown); Anderson (Eketahuna); Rutherford (Masterton). Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames McGarry (Martinborough), Ordish (Carterton), Barrer (Masterton), McLachlan (Rangitumau). and Feist (Featherston).

Sympathy was expressed to Mesdames Fergus, Perry and French, who are all in hospital and members expressed the hope that they would all soon be well again. The housekeepers’ secretary, Mrs Andrew, gave her report. After going thoroughly into the question of salaries, it was decided to pla’ce Mrs McNac on the same rate as that for registered housekeepers. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Andrew. A letter was received from the Rev. Williams, of the Flying Angel Mission for Seamen. Wellington, stating that the 50 pairs of blankets and two big packages of blankets and knitted goods contributed by the branches of the Wairarapa Women’s Division had been sent to the Lord Bledisloe Appeal for the Mercantile Marino. Branches could still send parcels in for this purpose. A letter from the Church of England Orphanage asked the Women’s Division to send eggs for the homes, to supply orphans. It was agreed that the eggs be brought to the Women’s Division Room, -Masterton, on the first Wednesdays in the month. It was 'stated that patterns for articles for the Mercantile Marine could be supplied by headquarters. Mrs Groves was deputed to get the wool, branches to put in for the amount they required. It was decided at the recent conference that a house committee be set up for the Rest Home. Mrs K. Groves was appointed to represent the executive.

Mrs Jackson stated she had a very pleasant duly to perform in presenting Mrs Groves with a* silver sugar spoon stamped with the badge- of the Women’s Division. Everyone admired Mrs Groves for her outspoken effort on the morality question of today. She had alone faced the Dominion delegates and made a clear statement of facts. They wished to hear more from this energetic member. Mrs Groves, returning thanks, said she was fighting for a clean form of society which wept to the making of a better world. Mrs Jackson was accorded a vote of thanks for the good work she had done during her term as Dominion treasurer. There was a general discussion on the proceedings of the Dominion Conference.
