FLIGHT IN CALE

MADE BY BRITISH BOMBERS TO ATTACK GERMAN WAR FACTORIES DEVASTATION IN RHINELAND CITIES. LARGE ENEMY SUPPLY SHIP DESTROYED. LONDON, August 6. Last night British bombers battled through a fierce gale and attacked objectives in Mannheim, Frankfurt and Karlsruhe. The attack was carried out with conspicuous success and caused widespread damage. At Karlsruhe, one pilot said it looked as if the industrial portion of the town was ablaze from end to end. The docks at Ostend and factories at Aachen, were also bombed during the night. A large enemy supply ship was attacked in a harbour and smoke 150 feet high was all that-remained over the spot where the ship had been. The whole of the night's raids cost nine British planes.
