JAPAN & ECUADOR

DEMAND FOR APOLOGIES & GUARANTEES. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) TOKIO, August 5. The Dome! news agency said tonight that Japan had demanded apologies and guarantees from Ecuador for alleged anti-Japanese acts. The Domei news agency explained that the demands were being made because of false allegations by Ecuador that Japanese troops were fighting with the Peruvian forces, because of oppression of Japanese nationals in Ecuador, attacks on Japanese property, and the detention of Japanese ships. A message from Quito, Ecuador, reports a Government official bulletin said on July 24 that there were at least 3000 Japanese officers and men in the Peruvian front lines in the renewed border fighting, which was very fierce. Peru has a large Japanese population.
