MEMORIAL SHIELD

DAVID GUILD CHALLENGE TROPHY.’ WON BY MR WILLIAM RAYNER. At the annual meeting of the Masterton A. and P. Association held yesterday afternoon, the president, Mr R. E. Gordon Lee, announced that the David Guild Memorial Challenge Shield had been won by Mr William Rayner. In Mr Rayner's absence Mr Lee presented the shield and a miniature trophy to Mr Rayner’s son, Mr Harold Rayner. Mr Lee said that the late Mr Guild was one of the first members of the association and was president in 1900 and 1901. Down through the years Mr Guild had done everything he could for the association. The memorial shield would remain in the custody of the association and in the years to come all would look with pride on the handsome trophy and remember the name of David Guild and what he had done for the association. Mr Lee said that the committee had decided that points for the shield should be spread over the sheep, cattle and pig classes. The exhibitor scoring the most points in those classes would win the shield. Mr Lee said that the winner, Mr William Rayner, was a loyal supporter of the association and his name was a by-word in show circles.
