PRUNING OF TREES
FROST NO BARRIER. The idea that fruit trees should not be pruned during spells of frost is a fallacy. For experimental purposes,: apple trees were pruned when 20 degrees were registered, and although severe frosts followed for more than a week, the trees showed no signs of injury. Since then, this matter has been investigated by one of the research stations, and immunity from damage established. This knowledge is valuable, because it is more pleasant to work with firm ground under the feet than wet, sticky soil. The trees, therefore, need not be considered; the amount of frost the operator can endure without discomfort is the determining factor.
