NAVY IN ACTION

ATTACK ON SARDINIA HARBOUR BY BRITISH DESTROYERS &.AIRCRAFT. CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE DONE. LONDON, August 5. The Fleet Air Arm and the Royal Navy co-operated in an attack on the Italian Mediterranean island of Sardinia on Friday night, when Swordfish bombers from the aircraft-carrier Ark Royal attacked an Italian seaplane base on the island. Ey the light of flares and the reflection of fires caused earlier by a bombardment by British destroyers, the bombs found their mark on aeroplane hangars and a petrol dump. A huge fire broke out. All the British aircraft returned safely. The earlier attack by destroyers prepared the way for the aircraft. The warships entered the roadstead and a neighbouring harbour and bombarded hangars and air installations at both places. A seaplane slipway was damaged by the naval gunfire.
