OPTIMIST CLUB
MEETING IN MASTERTON LAST NIGHT. AN INTERESTING DEBATE. There was a good attendance of members at the weekly meeting of the Masterton Optimist Club held in the Y.M.C.A. Rooms last night. The Chief Smiler, Mr R. C. Baikie, presided. Messrs E. J. Brown, E. Kjestrup and C. Lyttle were present as guests of the club. The greater part of the meeting was taken up with a debate, the subject being "That primary production is of greater importance to New Zealand than secondary industries.’’ The affirmative was taken by a team consisting of Optimists W. Lee and D. Pringle, led by Optimist E. C. Coddington, and the negative by Optimists E. J. Esler (leader), K. E. Forrest and C. J. Carle. The adjudicator, Mr C. W. Gaze, awarded the decision to the affirmative team. Mr Gaze gave a most helpful criticism of the debate and his remarks were fully appreciated by those who participated.
