RED CROSS SOCIETY SUCCESSFUL EUCHRE PARTY. . (“Times-Age” Special.) An enjoyable time was spent playing euchre at the Red Cross Society’s rooms yesterday and the Prisoners .of War Parcels Fund benefited by £2 9s. Mrs Baker was the cards winner, and Mrs H. Clark and Mrs Batty won the competitions. Goods were donated by Mesdames Bergh, Reg. Watson and Batty. Collection of Waste Materials. The South Featherston school children have had a busy time collecting waste materials, the sale of which amounted to £2 7s 9d. This sum has been handed to the Red Cross Society’s local sub-centre. The children are to be commended for their patriotic effort. Miss Mahood's pupils have knitted a peggy square rug for the local subcentre of the Red Cross Society. It is to be lined by the Red Cross Society’s Sewing Circle and then sent to England. First Aid Examination. Students of the local Red Cross Society are preparing for their first aid examination which is to be held on August 19. Eleven students will sit for the medallion. The school medical officer. Dr. Mul•holland, and the district nurses are visiting the local school. A number of children are absent from the school suffering from mumps. Street Improvement. The Revans Street road line is being graded and cleared and the footpath chipped and gravelled along the front of "the new school. Personal. Mrs C. J. Carlyon left today on a visit to New Plymouth.
