COUNTY COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Eketahuna County Council Cr. J. B. Carruthers presided, there being also present Crs. C. T. Richardson, P. Davies. G. Houlbrooke, F. M. Goggin. C. Davie, J. P. Petersen, H. N. Kebbell, R. G. Kebbell, T. Hancock and A. J. Perry. The Masterton County Council forwarded the proposed allocation of heavy traffic fees. The allocation is the same as for the past two years, the basis of distribution being 75 per cent for counties and 25 per cent for boroughs. The allocation was agreed to. The Public Works Department advised that a subsidy of £1 for £1 had been granted in respect to flood damage on county roads. The amount of the subsidy will be £2090. The clerk, Mr W. N. Richardson, reported as follows: The position of the Council's cash balances as at July 31, is as follows: County Fund account, dr. balance, £6114 16s lOd; less imprest account, £BOOO, cr. balance £3790 9s 3d; £5778 14s 3d; bridge fund account, cr. balance, £349 19s sd; bridges loan account, £BOO, cr. balance £3790 9s 3d; worker’s dwelling loan, £1550 ac., cr. balance, £8 2s 3d; rural housing loan, cr. balance, £l7O. The position of the County Fund account is now approaching the ovedraft limit, the position being accentuated through flood damage costs. Up to July 11 the costs alreadyincurred amounted to £2540, and the issue of authority to operate the special overdraft account would give much welcome relief. Authorities for the payment of the subsidy on the highways works for the current year have now been forwarded. At July 11, the expenditure on the highways maintenance and flood damage totalled £2150, with a subsidy due to the council of £1540. The receipts for the past month totalled £B6B 3s Id.
The engineer, Mr W. C. Duffill, reported, inter alia, for July, as follows: Masterton-Weber Road. —The whole month has been taken up with the clearing of flood damage on the Summit section. The road has been reopened to a good width and although much more country is on the move, areasonable job resulted. The work of replacing metal lost on the length is in hand. Eketahuna,-Alfredton Road. —A good deal of work on the water-tables and the clearing of small slips has been done, and following-grading, the road was restored for the most part to its previous standard. The ' clearance of slips in the Tawataia area is a matter for the summer. Pah Valley.—Further slips occurred near Lewis’s property and the power shovel is engaged on this section at date. A gang went through and completed the clearance of minor slips and watertables. Basketball. The following are the results of the Bush Basketball Association’s games played at Pahiatua on Saturday night: —Konini B 21 v. Hukanui 7: Stars A 15 v. Woodville 14; Konini A 29 v. Eketahuna 6; Hamua 19 v. W.F.C.A. 7; Stars A 13 v. Tuis 12. Young Lady Injured. On Friday Miss Betty Edmonds, of Tiraumea, was thrown from a horse while out riding. She was picked up unconscious and was removed to the Pahiatua Public Hospital suffering from severe head injuries.
