CARTERTON
ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS LOYAL HEART OF OAK LODGE. (“Times-Age” Special.) P.G. Bro. H. J. Rathbone, presided over the fortnightly meeting of Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge held last evening. Sick pay amounting to £lO and other accounts amounting to £2 5s were passed for payment. A certificate from the Navy Office, Auckland, in respect of a member serving overseas in the Fleet Air Arm was received and forwarded to the Head Office, Wellington. This entitles the contributions of the Brother to be paid by the society on his behalf for the duration of the war. The secretary of the Loyal Te Puke Lodge. Auckland, notified that a member of Heart of Oak Lodge had been accepted on the lodge medical list. Reports were made in connection with the last P.G. Lodge meeting, and satisfaction was expressed that despite the war, interest was still maintained in the lodge. The chief offices this year are members of Heart of Oak Lodge. It was resolved that the secretary write a letter to Mr and Mrs H. G. Steft’ert, Senr., expressing the lodge’s satisfaction at the good news received that their son, Lance Corporal A. Steffert, was alive and not dead as previously reported. The next meeting will be held on August 18.
SUCCESSFUL BALL LARGE GATHERING AT KING'S THEATRE. Visitors from all parts of the Wairarapa thronged the King's Theatre, Carterton, last night, for the Carterton Football Club’s annual ball. The gathering proved most successful. The hall was decorated with flags and bunting and a Victory sign, was suspendid over the stage. , . The music was supplied by Udy’s orchestra, and extras were played by Miss V. Sorenson and Mr T. Udy. A lucky spot competition was won by Miss Williams and Mr Herrick. The duties of M.s’C. were carried out by Messrs > J. Steffert and J. Fitzgerald. A savoury supper was served, the tables being decorated with sprigs of wattle. Military Camp. It is reported that a military camp will be established again at Tauherenikau. It is understood that sites for a camp are being inspected and that the authorities are considering Tauherenikau. Gun Club Championships., On the Wairarapa Gun Club’s grounds, Norfolk Road. Taratahi, on Saturday the A and B grade members of the club will compete in the sparrow shooting championships.
