R.A.F. OFFENSIVE
CONTINUED IN ADVERSE WEATHER GERMAN INDUSTRIAL AREAS ( BOMBED. ENEMY NIGHT FIGHTERS BEATEN OFF. LONDON, August 4. For more than a wook the weather has not favoured large-scale air operations, but in spite of these conditions lhe R.A.F. has continued its offensive against Germany. The industrial sections and communications of both Hanover and Frankfurt were heavily bombed last night.
German night fighters harassed our bombers en route, but they and fierce anti-aircraft fire were evaded. On the return journey, German night fighters were again encountered. The decks at Calais were also bombed. One British plane is missing. Last night’s raids on Britain were once more on a small scale. A few enemy aircraft approached the coast, but no incidents are reported.
SEVERAL CLAIMS
IN PROVINCES OF EGYPT. SUEZ CANAL AREA BOMBED. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.30 a.m.) RUGBY, August 4. An official communique, issued at Cairo, states: “Air raid alarms were sounded last evening by the Government in several provinces of Egypt. Bombs were dropped in the Suez canal area, causing 17 deaths and injuring 58 persons. Slight damage was done to property. ”
