FOOTBALL & HOCKEY MATCHES SUCCESSFUL DANCE. (“Times-Age” Special.) Saturday was a notable day at Te Ore Ore, when there was a record attendance at the Te Ore Ore meeting house. Football and hockey teams from the East Coast played local teams at the polo grounds. The football match resulted in! a draw and the local team won the hockey by 5 goals to 3. Following dinner in the meeting house, a dance was held at night, organised by the Te Ore Ore Hockey Club. The East Coast representatives were guests at the function. The music was supplied by Te Tau's orchestra and the duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr L. Pike. The dance concluded early and was followed by a social. Items were given by the visitors and local residents. A welcome was to have been given Private T. Kani, who was wounded in Crete, but Private Kani was not able to be present. The subscription list is still open and a presentation will be made to Private Kani at a later date. WOMEN’S AUXILIARY MAORI ORGANISATION SET UP. It has been decided to set up a Wairarapa Maori Women’s War Auxiliary with the object of knitting and working in the interests of local Maori soldiers overseas. Officers have been elected as follow: President, Mrs K. Te Tau; secretary, Miss T. Haeata; treasurer, Mrs C. Holes; committee, Mesdames Nini Haeata, Misses M. Carroll, and Q. Rimene. The auxiliary will be trained by the local Homo Guard instructors. It is understood that other sub-com-mittees will bo set up throughout the district.
