PEEBLES SEAT
CAPTAIN RAMSAY ASKED TO RESIGN. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON. August 2. The Peebles and South Midlothian Unionists Association is asking its member of Parliament, Captain A. H. M. Ramsay, to resign the seat. The association again calls the attention of the Government to the constituency's difficult position, which it states, persists despite repeated requests that the matter should be cleared up. Ramsay, founder of the Right Club, has been detained by the Government under the National Security Regulations since shortly after the outbreak of war. In a libel action against the “New York Times” last week he was awarded a farthing damages. The paper alleged that he had sent treasonable information to the German Legation in Dublin. At the last general election he won the Peebles and southern division of the Midlothian and Peebles electorate with a majority of 1462 votes against J. D. Pryde (Labour) who polled 12.209 votes.
